SAP Corporate Training Approach Overview
The training curriculum of SAP corporate training will be developed using a structured approach that includes the following high-level process and deliverables:
Training Preparation:
The training design involves specifying the training program for each affected audience group, as well as describing the high-level training delivery criteria.
Deliverables may include: Performance Support Plan, Training Environment Requirements, Training Needs Analysis, Training Course Outlines, Training Development Schedule and Training Metrics.
Training Development:
SAP Training Institute in New Jersey, Training Creation integrates the outputs generated during Training Design and other inputs to produce resources for training and performance support (training manuals, job aids, etc). The Training Management initiative also requires allocated resources to oversee the process of sign-off and evaluation, quality control checks and the logistics associated with training. The SAP Corporate Training Team must oversee the production of end-user training materials by working closely with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and project team to understand the needs and capabilities of the users.
Deliverables may include Completed Training Materials (user manuals, job aids, etc.), Functional Training Environment, Training Assessment Strategy, Preparation for Functional Trainers, and Workshop and Business Simulation Materials.
Training Delivery:
SAP Training Institute in New Jersey,Training Implementation focuses on finalizing all the training related logistics necessary to execute training effectively, providing the courses to the users and continuing support for post-implementation.
Deliverables may include: Training Delivery Schedule, Access to the SAP Basic Navigation Computer Based Training (CBT), Course Evaluations, Delivery of Instructor-Led Training, Business Simulations, and Workshops.
SAP Corporate Training Approach
Recommended Delivery Approach: Our recommendation involves a blended approach that includes the following elements.
Windows Training
All workers who are not familiar with Microsoft Windows will be expected to attend either on-site or at a third-party SAP corporate training provider in a training class. This is a prerequisite for making use of SAP.
CBT for all SAP-impacted employees
All workers affected by SAP need to start their SAP corporate training using RWD’s Basic Navigation CBT. It provides the student with basic SAP skills and principles that need to be learned before the student attends Teacher-Driven Training.
Instructor-Led Training (ILT)
High-level concepts and system navigation tips will be shared via ILT. ILT can also teach users to use online support and the tools for troubleshooting and fixing their own problems. This training can be offered to moderate-size (8-10 max) audiences. The ILT will be used for process and transactional training that takes place in the classroom which may span over several sessions of the course. SMEs should be improving these
Coaching
As the training audiences are segmented and need to learn distinct skills, a portion of the Project training will take place through coaching. Training team leaders and/or project management tools will be leveraged as learning mentors who will be working to teach small groups of learners practical skills.
Business Simulations
ILT provides students with exposure to new business processes and SAP transaction experience that will allow them to fulfill their job responsibilities. Business simulations, a great success during Phase I, provide users with an environment where they can use the skills gained in ILT and collaborate with other departments of Think Tree W to solve day-to-life scenarios. Business simulations are used to assess the adoption of the new processes by the end-user population, and whether / what additional training should be carried out before Go-Live.
Workshops
Workshops are the final framework for delivering extra, oriented instruction to end-users. When business simulations are completed, the training team will decide which training procedures need to be improved. The Training team can schedule workshops to be delivered to small groups using the materials available in the training manuals. Workshops are often used as a medium to communicate process or transactional improvements that have taken place since the ILT.
Corporate Training Delivery Methods
Implementation of the Project would involve various amounts of training across a diverse end-user population. Some users will have extremely modest needs for instruction, while others will require extensive knowledge and skills. A variety of training delivery approaches would be considered to achieve these diverse goals. A variation of the following types of training can be used.
SAP Basic Navigation CBT
Those workers using SAP technology have to continue their SAP corporate training journey using RWD’s Basic Navigation CBT. This gives the student access to basic SAP skills and principles that need to be learned before the student attends ILT. There is a credential test at the end of the CBT which each student must pass before attending the ILT.
Method/Tool | Description | Key Benefits |
---|---|---|
SAP Basic Navigation CBT | Enables end-users to participate in self-paced SAP-learning emphasis placed on interactive demonstrations and exercises most end users can access CBT from their work stations access to CBT is distributed via e-mail notification | Gives users the opportunity to become comfortable with SAP environment before ILT Participants benefit from multiple test/quiz checkpoints Hands-on practice with the system in a safe environment, available 24/7 |
Risks/ Requirements | Ensure connectivity to each appropriate work stationery number of licenses needed for new employees communicate to the managers that their direct reports need ample time to complete the CBT |
Course Outlines
The course outlines provide a high level description of the training courses.
Method/Tool | Description | Key Benefits |
---|---|---|
Course Outline | Objective: Each course will be created with clearly defined objectives to ensure training meets project objectives for each course the Training team will identify: High-level description of main topics Audience Duration | Courses are process-focused, so end users can apply training concepts to “real world” situations. Clear, upfront curriculum planning enables the ‘bundling’ of the training audience by skill sets curriculum structure helps ensure that the right people get information that is relevant and sufficiently detailed in scope |
Risks/ Requirements | Ensure connectivity to each appropriate work stationery number of licenses needed for new employees communicate to the managers that their direct reports need ample time to complete the CBT |
Instructor-Led Training (ILT)
The machine and paper-based materials are created and discussed in class with ILT. The class involves presentations of material, demos of the students, discussions and activities. During the course activities, a training database (essentially a replica or “instance” of the real SAP program) gives users hands-on program experience. ILT focuses on the principles of general SAP, navigation and new business procedures. This also offers access to online support services and work supports for users.
ILT should cover mission-critical tasks most likely to be conducted and used by the participants immediately after Go-Live. Instructors explore these important tasks and participants use similar exercises to work in.
Method/Tool | Description | Key Benefits |
---|---|---|
ILT | Led by trainers and supported by SME’s Emphasis placed on interactive discussions, hands-on practice and exercises Instructors use training database and training manuals Presentation tools and exercise packets are distributed to participants | Gives users opportunity to have a system and business questions answered by experts training is focused on business, not only system-related tasks participants benefit from peer interaction Hands-on practice with the system in a safe environment reinforces the use of reference materials by incorporating them into course |
Risks/ Requirements | Ensure appropriate class sizes (student/instructor ratio should not exceed 10/1) Need qualified, effective and knowledgeable instructors with superior communication skills |
Training Database (supports classroom training)
The training database facilitates the production and implementation of instruction and allows learners to perform exercises in a safe environment. Training database is filled with practical data (master data, model customers, and vendors) and used during the training development process as a testing environment. The training platform can be used to promote seminars, company simulations and ILT exercises.
Method/Tool | Description | Key Benefits |
---|---|---|
Training Database | Provides a “safe place” to practice activities/transactions without affecting production supports “live” demonstrations and hands-on exercises during ILT and Coaching | Mirrored to match the configuration of Think Tree’s “live” environment as closely as possible |
Risks/ Requirements | Requires initial setup and population of a database with realistic data (this demands adequate technical resources)Training database needs to be kept up to date with system changes database must be refreshed periodically to ensure trainees are working with clean, accurate data |
E. Coaching
Coaching is an effective form of preparation for small groups with “specialized” abilities, simple improvement of procedures and follow-up instruction. For these circumstances, various formal training materials need not be produced. Instead, basic priorities are outlined, and a specialist is collaborating with users to clarify and illustrate essential tasks relating to work. Users then practice or show new skills, and feedback is given. Coaching may take place, before and after implementation, in research, training or live environment.
